The team of the Comrat mayor, Nicolae Dudoglo, supports the Social Democratic Party in the parliamentary elections (PSD). The announcement was made on Monday, February 23, at a news conference in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Anna Harlamenco, the speaker of the Gagauz legislature, a sister of Nicolae Dudoglo, has said the Comrat mayor's team decided to support the PSD because of the program proposed by the party. “Today we have a big common enemy – the financial crisis and the lack of jobs. That is why we decided to go with this party which has the most serious and strongest anti-crisis program,” Harlamenco said. According to her, the PSD's program is attractive for the Gagauz area also because it provides for electing the President directly, as well as the MPs and judges, what could allow the area to integrate into the national structures.
Harlamenco has said that, to support the party, the team members will electioneer in the their region for the PSD. She has specified she does not want to run for a seat in the parliament and will not abandon the seat of the speaker of the People's Assembly during the campaign.
The conference was also attended by independent councilor from Ceadar-Lunga, Serghei Gasta, and the deputy president of the Comrat municipal council, Gheorghe Arabadji. Those two has stated that the whole team of Dudoglo supports the PSD.
PSD president Dumitru Braghis has said the party thus has representatives working with the voters within the autonomy. “The PSD counts a lot on the door-to-door campaign. Up to now, the PSD members have discussed with some 820,000 voters, as 125,000 of them said they would vote for the PSD. A similar campaign started this week in Gagauzia,” Braghis said.
Earlier, the team of the Gagauz governor, Mihail Formuzal, declared its support for another party – the Centrist Union (UCM). The team of the governor committed to convince 75% of the Gagauz voters to vote for the party led by former premier Vasile Tarlev, after the UCM had signed an agreement with the People's Republican party (PPR), the deputy president of which is the Gagauz governor.
