Dual education will be promoted in institutions of higher education for the first time. This way, conditions will be created for attracting practitioners from different areas of professional formation and academic mobility will be strengthened for improving the quality of university studies. This is provided in a bill to amend the Education Code, which was given a first reading by Parliament, IPN reports.

“This concept proved its efficiency in technical vocational education, where the students have theoretical lessons in educational institutions and apprenticeship at enterprises. In the case of universities, dual education will be valid at the undergraduate cycle, for particular specialties, as the Ministry of Education and Research will decide in coordination with other central responsible bodies and the interested business entities,” Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topală stated in Parliament.

Under the amendments to the Education Code, double specialties will be introduced in education sciences and philology. When the students studying double specialties complete their studies, they will get one university diploma in two specialties. This way, the graduates will enjoy more employment opportunities, according to the authorities.

“The goal of these changes is to ensure the quality of university studies, of students studying two specialties or languages – classical languages, foreign languages and literature, the Romanian language and literature, the languages and literature of ethnic groups living in the Republic of Moldova,” said the minister.

The bill to amend the Education Code will be adopted after it is given a final reading.
