Drunk persons or those with sharp objects or firearms on them won’t be allowed in the Great National Assembly Square on New Year’s Eve, announced Livii Baziuc, head of the National Patrol Inspectorate. He told a press conference that the police will ensure public order and safety, but, unlike previous year, no fences will be installed.

Police officers will selectively check people and the drunk ones won’t be allowed in the square. Baziuc advised people to drink moderately in order to avoid conflicts and breaking the law.

Marin Maxian, head of the public safety division at the General Police Inspectorate, recommended people to be careful, to leave at home any precious belongings and keep their money hidden. Parents are urged not to leave their children unattended. He also advised people to be careful with whom they allow to enter their home because thieves can disguise as Santas or carolers.

The police asked the people to immediately call 902 whenever they happen to witness a crime or a fight.

Over 3000 police officers will be deployed throughout the country between December 31 and January 15 to protect public order.
