A man driving under the influence of alcohol was caught by the police because he was moving unevenly and with his headlights off in the dark. The 46-year-old man from Drochia had been banned from driving and did not have a license. In order to avoid responsibility, he tried to bribe the police patrol, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, it was established that the driver was prohibited from driving in 2020. The alcohol test performed with a Dräger device indicated a result of 0.62 mg/l of alcohol vapor in the exhaled air.

In order to avoid criminal liability, the man tried to bribe the policemen by leaving banknotes worth 1,000 lei in the service car. The driver was detained for 72 hours, and the car was taken to the special parking lot.

In September, the penalties for drunk driving became much harsher. Thus, if a driver is detected in an advanced state of intoxication, this risks a fine of up to 125,000 lei or even imprisonment of up to three years, in both cases with ban on driving.
