Drunk driver runs BMW into post

Driving under the influence of alcohol, a young man from Chisinau lost control of the car and got involved in an accident. Paulina Iakimovski, of the Traffic Police Department, has told Info-Prim Neo that the 27-year-old man was driving a BMW on Muncesti Street in Chisinau. The car skidded on the wet road and went straight into a lamp post, from where it was thrown into a Renault parked by the roadside. The police instituted legal proceedings against the driver. The body of a man in his 60s was found on the Brest-Chisinau-Odessa route, not far from Edinet town. He had been struck fatally by a car. Shortly afterward, the police in Edinet identified the car and the driver to blame. The 20-year-old taxi driver from Edinet left the scene after striking the man. He is now under arrest. The 224 road accidents that happened in Moldova this year resulted in 30 deaths and 326 persons injured.
