Drunk driver kills child, grandfather

A girl aged 3 and her grandfather aged 68, Chisinau residents, died in a road accident caused by a drunk driver. The inspector of the Chisinau Road Security Service, Ion Roscovanu told Info-Prim Neo that the tragic road accident occurred at the crossroad of Traian Boulevard and Independentei Street on January 10 at 17:50. The BMW-520, driven by the intoxicated driver Oleg Marcu, 34, knocked down at high speed the old man who was crossing the street with the child in his arms. The collision was so strong that Vladimir Levinta and his granddaughter died on the spot. According to preliminary investigations, Oleg Marcu is guilty in this situation. At the crossroad of Ismail and Bucuresti Street, a GAZ-53 truck, driven by a man aged 20 collided with an Opel-Astra. As a result of the collision, the car was thrown into another automobile – Opel-Corsa, the driver of which, 26, suffered a shoulder contusion and his wife aged 23 a mental shock. A Volkswagen-Golf driven by a man aged 26 crashed into a power pillar on Bucovina Street at 8.00. His son aged 4 and a woman aged 51 suffered head traumas and mental shocks. On Wednesday, the road police fined 10 intoxicated drivers and 39 who neglected the semaphore.
