The women that will go to the community drugstores will receive a gratis guidebook teaching them how to examine their breasts by themselves. Such a measure is part of the educational project for women “Breast Cancer – Be Aware!” which will be implemented by the Association of Pharmacists of Moldova during October 1-30. The project is carried out on the occasion of the World Breast Cancer Day marked on October 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to representatives of the Association, the project aims to educate the women and raise their awareness of this problem. By 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates the number of people with cancer will double to 20 million. Half of these cases will be in the developing world, which has few resources to treat them. 10 million new cases of cancer are discovered every year, including about 2 million cases in Europe. This disease causes 25% of the deaths on the European continent. In Moldova, at least 5,000 people die of cancer every year. The Association of Pharmacists of Moldova was founded in 1996. It has a membership of 3,000. The educational project for women “Breast Cancer – Be Aware!” is implemented with the financial assistance of the Swiss pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd.
