The Government annulled the protocol note of July 13, 2009 by which the profit margin on medications put by the drugs and medical devices selling subdivisions of the public medical-sanitary institutions of primary medical assistance was reduced to 0%. The executive expected that the prices of drugs in these institutions and in private drugstores will thus decrease, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Theoretically, the intention was good,” said Minister of Health Larisa Catrinici. “Practically speaking yet, the limitation of the profit margin to 0% could lead to the bankruptcy of these divisions as they would not have money to cover such costs as the salaries to employees, the rent and others,” the official added. Under the legislation, the highest profit margin on drugs is 15% on wholesale sales and 25% on retail sales.
