The sapling plantations in Grigoriopol have been almost fully destroyed by the drought. The most affected were the conifers, Novi Region reported. The Transnistrian foresters planted almost 10,000 saplings this spring. Only one of ten saplings survived the drought. Meanwhile, the acacia and maple planted a few years ago in the Grigoriopol district have been scorched by the sun. Vasili Liusnea, of the Grigoriopol forestry service, says that most of the walnut and oak sapling planted last year died as well. The drought was a tough challenge even for a 250 year-old oak, which began to dry. The forested area in the Transnistrian region is only a quarter of the needed one to ensure the necessary quality of air and climate comfort.
