Farmers in Floresti district ask the Government to help them persuade the lenders to reschedule loan payment dates, as well as to extend new credits. During PM Vasile Tarlev’s visit, the farmers in the district said that the move will help them overcome the problems related to this year’s unfavourable weather conditions. The Prime Minister stated that despite all the difficulties in the agricultural sector, the authorities take the necessary steps to guarantee the country’s food security. The head of Government encouraged the farmers to insure their crops against loss, taking into account that the Government covers 80% of the policy’s cost. The Prime Minister also said that this year the Government will partly repair the loss caused by hail, even for the uninsured farmers. Some 50 percent of the harvest in Floresti district was affected by drought and hail. Most affected were corn fields. However, the farms in the district managed to harvest 26.3 thousand tonnes of grain, including wheat – 21.5 thousand tonnes. Farmers hope that the rains registered in the last few days will revive beet and sunflower crops.
