The Ștefan cel Mare Lyceum in Drochia was renovated and modernized as part of a $61,000 project supported by the Government of Japan under the Kusanone Program.

The money was used to repair the classrooms, the bathrooms, the electrical and ventilation systems and the roof.

“The project helped to create optimal conditions for the smooth running of the educational process, ensuring the protection of health and security, as well as the educational environment for the 531 students and 71 teachers and auxiliary staff”, the Japanese embassy said in a press release.

Ambassador Yamada Yoichiro stressed that Japan helps schools around the world to be kept in good condition through the small grants Kusanone Program. This program is based on Japan’s belief in the importance of investing in the future of children and young people. He also expressed his belief in a European future for young people.

The human security grants program Kusanone was launched in Moldova in 2008. To date, Japan has provided grant funding for 88 projects in education, health care and public utilities.
