Drochia Maternal Center to support underprivileged young mothers

The Maternal Center “Artemida”, a social reintegration center that will assist mothers and pregnant women at risk or in crisis situations, was officially opened on Tuesday, August 15, in Drochia. The center is administrated by the NGO “Artemida” and is a part of the “Better Opportunities for Women and Youth” project, implemented by the United Nations Development Program in Moldova. According to the press release of UNDP, the Center is the first Maternal Center outside Chisinau. Mothers and pregnant women are provided with accommodation, medical assistance and psychosocial counseling with conditions similar to a family home. The women in need will be provided with legal assistance, life skills development, vocational training, and employment assistance. The Drochia Maternal Center can offer accommodation to 10 women. It offers assistance to about 25 women from the region per year. “Artemida” Center is the fourth center launched under the “Better Opportunities for Women and Youth” project. Two Social Reintegration Centers for Youth in Edinet and Calarasi and two Maternal Centers in Cahul and Causeni will be launched soon.
