The drivers who will park their cars alongside the street causing traffic congestion will be fined 200 to 300 lei. The Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca demanded that the police take tougher action against the irresponsible drivers. The formation of jams is especially dangerous in the period in which the thermometers show about 40 degrees Celsius. The mayor asked the decision makers to mobilise their efforts to diminish the negative effects of the hot weather on the population. Chisinau Deputy Police Chief Iacob Gumenita said that at least 15 mobile teams of policemen will patrol through the capital round the clock to control traffic. Special attention will be paid to the streets with increased traffic such as Stephan the Great Boulevard, Ismail, Varlaam and Pushkin streets. The police recommend the drivers to avoid the crowded places and give up the private transport when possible. According to Alexei Varlan, interim head of the General Public Transport Division, during the dog days the main roads of the city will be washed two times a day. The administration of the Urban Bus Company and of the Electric Transport Division Chisinau will ensure that the public transport travels at optimal intervals and that the means of transport are in an adequate condition.
