The winter tires can be replaced by universal or summer tires, but the drivers must yet travel with the lights on during the day, until the end of March.

Starting with December 1, the drivers are obliged to travel with their units of transport outfitted with tires used in winter. There is no fixed time when the drivers can change the winter tires for universal ones. This can be done as soon as there is no snow, glazed frost or ice on the road, press officer of the National Patrolling Inspectorate Uliana Catan has told.

A set of summer tires costs between 2,000 and 6,000 lei, but there are yet tires that cost 10,000 lei or even more. The service to have the tires replaced costs 150 to 500 lei, depending on the make of the car. Traders said the tire prices rose by about 5% on last year. They didn’t specify the reasons, but said that the tires come with increased prices from the suppliers.

From November 1 until March 31, the drivers must travel with the lights on during the day as well.
