The driver who fatally struck a police officer in Cosnita three months ago was sentenced to three years behind bars and banned from driving for a period of four years. He was also obliged to pay 200,000 lei damages to the successor of the victim.
The tragedy happened on February 3 this year. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the man, who was driving a BMW under the influence of alcohol on the Dubasari – Chisinau road, lost control of the car and crashed this into a curb on the opposite side of the road, striking a pedestrian. The impact was so violent that the 28-year-old victim died on the spot. This was a patrol agent and was out of work at that moment.
When being questioned by prosecutors, the driver admitted his guilt. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
