Driver who killed husband and wife by car gets seven years

A young man from Hancesti district who two years ago mortally strike a man and his wife by his car near Buteni village was sentenced to seven years in prison. When the sentence was passed, the 26-year-old culprit was absent from the hearing. He is now wanted, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

It was established that in the evening of November 3, 2012, the driver, being under the influence of alcohol, changed lanes and collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The motorcyclist and his wife were projected several dozen meters onto a meadow. As a result of the received injuries, they died. Questioned by prosecutors, the man said that he drank one beer that day and then, together with two friends of his, decided to go to a discotheque in Buteni.

The court sentenced the man to seven years behind bars and banned him from driving vehicles for a period of five years. It also ordered that the culprit should pay 101,400 lei damages to the successor who cares for the two children of the victims.
