A man from Edineţ who last April 2017 hit a young man by his car while driving under the influence and left the place of the accident got 11 years. The sentence was passed by the Edineţ Court, IPN reports.
The accident occurred in Cuconeștii Noi village of Edineţ district. The Prosecutor General’s Office said the man was driving under the influence without having a driver’s license. He lost control of the vehicle and struck a young man and his sister on the roadside as a result.
The 23-year-old man died on the spot, while his sister aged 17 was rushed to the hospital in a serious state. The driver didn’t stop to help, but was soon identified by the police. It was determined that the man aged 30 was driving at a speed of over 80 km/h.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
