Patrol inspectors caught three speeding drivers on roads in Leova district. One of them was travelling at a speed of 179 km/h. The police warn that speeding is one of the main causes of road accidents with very serious consequences, IPN reports.
The other two speeding drivers exceeded 137 km/h. The three men were punished with a fine of 1,500 lei and with five penalty points each.
“Together with the warming of weather, some of the drivers venture into speeding and ignore the risks to which they expose themselves when they violate traffic rules. In the period, we use speed measuring devices so as to prevent road accidents,” said the General Police Inspectorate.
According to the Inspectorate, over 2,300 accidents occurred on the national roads last year. They resulted in over 230 deaths and about 2,600 persons hurt. More than half of the accidents were due to speeding.
