The court of Briceni district sentenced a 48-year-old resident of Drepcauti village of Briceni district to eight years' imprisonment for murder, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The man drank alcoholic beverages in his house together with the another man. He came into conflict with the victim and they started to fight. The owner of the house stabbed his drinking companion with a knife, causing him serious bodily injuries. Ultimately, the victim died.
Under the Penal Code, a person found guilty of murder is sentenced to 8 to 15 years in jail.
The court chose the most lenient sentence as the culprit has one leg amputated and is an invalid of the second degree and regretted his deed.
The decision can be appealed to a higher court.
