One of the central drainpipes near the Railway Terminal in Chisinau was stopped up deliberately. Workers found a plug whose diameter coincided with that of the pipe, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the Chisinau City Hall, the plug was discovered during works performed to connect a pipe with the rainwater collecting well located opposite the street. If it hadn’t been removed, the pluvial sewerage system would have been blocked.
Works to rehabilitate and extend the drainpipes are carried out on the streets Aleea Garii, Decebal, Fantanilor, and Gagarin, near the Railway Terminal.
The project “Pluvial sewerage. Promoting and implementing innovative actions to climate change” is financed by the European Union within the program “Non-state actors and local authorities in development” and is carried out by the Chisinau City Hall in partnership with the Odessa City Hall during December 2009 – June 2012. The project has a total budget of €900 000, €737 147 of which was allocated to the Chisinau City Hall.
