Romanian MEP Dragoș Tudorache admitted that the European Union is concerned about Moldova’s security following the latest incidents witnessed on the left side of the Nistru. The official said that this week, the European Parliament will adopt a resolution in support of the Republic of Moldova. Also, June will be the moment of truth when Chisinau will receive a response from the EU as to the European perspective, IPN reports.

Russia purportedly is decided to attack the Republic of Moldova and already prepared the plan of an eventual invasion. The hypothesis was formulated by the British newspaper The Times, which quotes sources of Ukrainian intelligence services. Dragoș Tudorache said the information concerns the EU, primarily following the recent incidents reported on the left side of the Nistru.

“There are concerns and not necessarily after the paper The Times related. Concerns appeared after the security incidents witnessed in the Transnistrian region. A proof of the existence of concerns is also the fact that this week, we will debate and adopt a resolution in the European Parliament. But we do not want to abide by speculations and to guess what will happen. The call for calmness transmitted by the authorities in Chisinau should be obeyed and any attempt to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova should be discouraged,” Dragoș Tudorache stated in the talk show “Expertise Hour” on JurnalTV channel.

The MEP said that Ukraine and Moldova will soon get responses from the European community as to the European integration prospects. The security crisis in the region accelerates this process and the European Council will pronounce on the issue by end-June.

“The Government in Chisinau fulfilled its responsibilities. The European Commission is to analyze all the answers in the questionnaire. Based on the answers and the assessments of the European Commission, this will address a recommendation to the Council. This recommendation will be discussed by the European Council in June. That will be the moment, at the end of June, when we will see, at political level, the message that the European Union will transmit to Ukraine, Moldova. I hope that moment will be a celebratory one for the Republic of Moldova. It will be a moment that would confirm the political expectations in Chisinau and would recognize the candidate country status of the Republic of Moldova,” said Dragoș Tudorache.

Earlier, Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan announced that the European Parliament this week will adopt a resolution by which it will show its support to the Republic of Moldova. Also, during the plenary session of May 18-19, President Maia Sandu will give a speech in the European Parliament and will raise the refugee crisis and the support offered by the international community to manage this crisis.
