Moldova's foreign partners, such as the Delegation of the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, are following the evolution of discussions on a possible merger of specialized prosecutors' offices, the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office Veronica Dragalin stated in the talk show “Resumé” on RliveTV channel. She explained that an eventual merger of the specialized prosecutors' offices will lead to the creation of an uncontrollable institution, IPN reports.

"I was contacted by foreign partners - embassies, the International Monetary Fund, the EU Delegation. I tell them my professional opinion and tell them what is in the interest of Moldova and the citizens," said the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office.

Veronica Dragalin warned that a possible merger of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (APO) and the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) into a single entity could pose significant risks. She stressed that if the new institution were to become corrupt, it would be difficult to control.

"If the merger of the APO and PCCOCS were to take place and there would be a mega-structure led by one man, which would be responsible for 85% of the work of the prosecution service in the country, and if there would be corruption within this mega-prosecutor's office, who would investigate these potential corrupt prosecutors and officers? Would a local prosecutor have the capacity and courage to do this?", asked Veronica Dragalin.

She explained that anti-corruption prosecutors are currently investigating the work of PCCOCS prosecutors and vice versa and this contributes to maintaining a balance between these prosecutors' offices. This mutual supervision is essential to ensure the integrity and efficiency of prosecutors' offices.

"Something very dangerous will be created. It would be a mega-institution that could not be controlled. As long as there are the APO and PCCOCS, we have cases involving our colleagues from the other prosecutor's office and this is normal. It is normal that there is a balance so that it does not become an uncontrollable institution," said Veronica Dragalin.

Earlier, the Ministry of Justice proposed reorganizing the specialized prosecutors' offices with the aim of streamlining the fight against corruption and organized crime. One of the formulas proposed was to merge the APO and PCCOCS into a single entity attached to the Prosecutor General's Office.
