Dozens of people came together at the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac” in Chisinau on June 14 to donate blood on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day. The officials and the ordinary people who have donated blood for many years said that this way they can help the sick people in need of blood transfusion. For their part, the authorities call on the people to donate blood because this brings benefits to their health. The most experienced and the youngest donors were awarded, IPN reports.

Deputy Minister of Health Liliana Iasan said the interest expressed by the people in the donation of blood shows that there is positive feedback for blood safety. “Blood safety is a priority for the country. This way the people express their solidarity with the patients in poor health. Those who donate blood help secure the reserve of blood components in the Republic of Moldova,” she stated.

Director of the National Blood Transfusion Center Svetlana Cebotari said the blood donation event became a tradition already. This way the authorities sensitize the population to the necessity of donating blood. Blood collection centers were opened today in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul.

“It’s good to donate blood regularly. The donor must be aged between 18 and 60m, have a weight of over 50 kg and perfect health and must lead a healthy lifestyle. By donating blood, we contribute to saving lives,” said Svetlana Cebotari.

According to statistics, over 1,800 units of blood are annually collected in Moldova.
