The Moldovans who worked legally in Italy and who are entitled to a pension provided by this state are invited to submit the necessary documents to the one stop information shop “Italian pension in Moldova” that was recently set up at the Botanica Local House of Social Insurance, situated at 108 Burebista St.

Victor Croitoru, the representative in Moldova of the Christian Association of Italian Workers (ACLI), has told IPN that this shop works on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, between 9am and 12 noon. Today, October 21, when the shop started to work, about 50 Moldovans who want to benefit from a pension from Italy came to this shop. Fifteen of the first 25 persons who were counseled are definitely entitled to an Italian pension.

The Italian legislation provides that the foreigners, including Moldovans, who reached the retirement age of 66 years and three months for 2015 (66 years and seven months from January 1, 2016) and who paid contribution to the Italian state and returned to Moldova, are entitled to a pension from Italy. According to Victor Croitoru, about 200 persons in Moldova already receive an Italian pension of minimum €50 a month, depending on the period worked in Italy and on the contribution paid into this country’s budget. Those who worked in Italy for over five years or for about ten years receive pensions of €200 or €250 a month.

Those who worked in Italy based on a permit of stay and reached 66 years and three months (this year) can go to the one stop shop at 108 Burebista St or at the ACLI office located at 102 Shchusev St with the identity card and with the Italian fiscal code. The procedure from the submission of documents until the receiving of the pension can last for up to four months. The pension can be collected from any bank in Moldova, where there will be opened a bank account in euros.

Victor Croitoru said an information session was staged for the Moldovans who are entitled to a pension on the occasion of the opening of the one stop shop as the people are not sufficiently informed.

There is yet no social security agreement between Moldova and Italy. Currently, about 200,000 Moldovans work in Italy. The Moldovans who have also Romanian nationality are registered in Italy as EU citizens and can receive a pension from the age of 70 years and three months, with a minim of five years worked. The retirement age for men and women is the same.
