The latest frost left a part of the residents of Chisinau without water after dozens of unprotected plumbing installations got frozen. The dispatcher’s service of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” was informed about 140 cases of freezing of branch pipes and water meters. Maintenance teams travel to the reported addresses to remedy the situation, IPN reports.

“Apa-Canal Chisinau” reminds the consumers that measures should be taken during the cold period of the year to ensure the protection and physical intactness of manholes, water meters and basements. The managers must thermally insulate the access ways to and the in-house water pipes and sewers.

To avoid accidents and useless costs, the branch pipes and water meters must be insulated with special material, allowing access only to the meter figures. The housing stock managers are obliged to protect these goods.

If these conditions are not met, the responsibility for the subsequent halt in the supply of water, following the freezing of water meters, will be borne by the housing stock manager or the owner, depending on the case.
