A man and his wife aged 78 and 79 from Sângerei town were found dead in their house in the morning of May 6. The police said the couple’s son aged 48, who lived with his patents, is the main suspect.
Mariana Bețivu, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate, has told IPN that the police were called out by the suspect’s brother. He told the police that his younger brother was threatening his parents with use of violence. When at the scene, the police found the bodies of the couple with signs of a violent death.
According to preliminary reports, after committing the crime the suspect went away. He was found in the central park of Sângerei town with a knife in his hand and was very aggressive. A number of police officers and special means, including teargas, were used to arrest the man. He had the knife with which he supposedly killed his parents and about €16,000 on him. The man said he worked abroad and the money belonged to him.
He was arrested for 72 hours. The police said he admitted his guilt, but made contradictory statements about the reasons for the crime. He faces a long jail term for murder.
