Former minister of the interior Dorin Recean was on the PAS’ short list of candidates for Prime Minister, said representatives of PPPDA and political commentators who consider that Recean’s return to the public life means this is to be promoted to an important state post. For their part, representatives of the government said Recean was appointed presidential adviser because the Head of State fully trusts his professional skills, IPN reports.

The representatives of the government describe as unfounded the criticism leveled at Dorin Recean. According to PAS MP Radu Marian, the presidential team was chosen based on professionalism and uprightness and Dorin Recean has such qualities.

“The President of the Republic of Moldova trusts Dorin Recean can fulfill his duties in this job. The fact that he represented PLDM does not mean that he is not a professional. I was also a supporter of PLDM, but I’m not automatically classed as corrupt and discredited. PAS undertook to bring things in order, including in the security sector, and when the President hires a person, this is an assumed decision,” PAS MP Radu Marian stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

Representatives of the extraparliamentary opposition and political pundits are sure that the government is preparing Dorin Recean for a high-ranking post and his appointment as presidential adviser is aimed at testing the society’s tolerance.

“The President tries to shape a new Government formula as the current Government will not be kept long no matter how much PAS loves it. The current crisis and all the witnessed price rises will ultimately make someone pay a political price and the removal of the Government will be this price. Dorin Recean was on the PAS’ short list of candidates for Prime Minister,” said the representative of PPPDA Ion Terguță.

“I don’t think Missis President and all those who advise her anticipated the wave of negative reactions following the appointment of Dorin Recean. The impression is that the people who brought Recean to a state post intend to test public opinion. This appointment can be a launch paid for another post,” said political commentator Ilian Cașu.

The former minister of the interior in the Filat Government and the Leancă Government Dorin Recean was named secretary of the Supreme Security Council and adviser to President Maia Sandu on defense and national security by a presidential decree on February 4. Recean took up his duties on February 7.
