The Transnistrian conflict settlement will be based only on peaceful ways. The Republic of Moldova will continue to ensure security and peace in the region. The European course of the Republic of Moldova does not represent an impediment to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated in a meeting with the Special Representative of the North Macedonian OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Thomas Mayr-Harting, IPN reports.

Premier Recean underlined the necessity of promoting the programs to build confidence between the two banks of the Nistru River, including in the economic and social sectors.

Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting appreciated the dialogue in the 1+1 negotiation format and reaffirmed the OSCE’s commitment to offer the assistance needed to settle the Transnistrian conflict.

The first meeting in the 1+1 format this year was held on the left side of the Nistru in February. It centered on the provisions of the Law on Separatism. After discussions, the chief negotiator of Tiraspol Vitaly Igantiev said that he does not have any guarantee that the legal provisions adopted by Chisinau will not apply to him as well and he would not be arrested. For his part, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian said that from the viewpoint of the constitutional authorities, the given law does not represent an impediment to the negotiation process.
