Moldova as a society still has a lot of work to do to change the existing situation as regards violence, in particular against women. This can be achieved by encouraging women and the community to help change the mindset and change the culture, through school education, but also through activities we do in the community. This was stated by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at an international conference to prevent and combat violence against women and girls as well as domestic violence.

According to Dorin Recean, it is essential for the Moldovan society that the rights of all citizens are respected, in particular the rights of women. According to him, many women are abused, either physically or verbally, and this is not acceptable. This cannot be justified by cultural factors or traditions.

State institutions must monitor the observance of women’s rights and intervene where there is violence, violence against women, violence against children, violence in the family.

The conference was organized during October 25 and 26 by the National Coalition “Life without violence”, for the third consecutive year. The coalition is a national network of 21 non-governmental organizations dedicated to preventing and combating violence against women, children and family violence.
