The path to the EU is the one chosen by the citizens and is the result of the done work, Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated after the European Commission recommended the EU member states to open accession negotiations with Moldova, IPN reports.

“This is recognition of our efforts to harmonize the national legislation with the European one, to strengthen the state institutions, to modernize the villages and towns and to adjust to the community standards and values,” stated the official.

The European Commission’s recommendation came in a year and a half after Moldova filed an application for EU membership. Meanwhile, the country’s European aspirations were strengthened through the European Moldova Assembly and the formation of stronger ties with the family of European states at the European Political Community Summit, noted Dorin Recean.

“We will continue to work with greater intensity until we become a full-fledged member of the European Union. This is also the main benchmark for the discussion of the heads of state and government at the European Council’s meeting in December, when a final decision on the opening of negotiations will be taken,” stated Premier Recean.

On November 8, the European Commission recommended opening the accession negotiations with Moldova. The announcement was made by the President of the European Commission Union Ursula von der Leyen, who presented the EU’s Enlargement Report. A final decision on the opening of negotiations with Moldova will be taken by the member states at the December 14-15 meeting of the European Council.
