The Government of the Republic of Moldova will not tolerate another agenda than the citizens’ agenda, said Prime Minister Dorin Recean, referring to the preliminary victory scored by the Șor Party’s candidate Yevgenia Guțul in the gubernatorial election held in Gagauzia. He noted that the election outcome needs to be validated, but the police and prosecutors presented new evidence of violations committed in the election process to the local election commission, IPN reports.

Premier Recean stated that he cannot yet speak about eventual cooperation with the new Bashkan (Governor) of Gagauzia as the election should be validated first. He avoided saying if there is the possibility of invalidating the election, but noted that the police identified a lot of deviations from the electoral legislation.

“In the autonomous territorial unit, there are a lot of valuable mayors and the Government will continue working with the mayors, with the citizens and with the local elected officials who represent citizens’ interests. The election should be first of all validated. A lot of violations were identified there and these violations were well documented and presented to the local electoral authorities. The police and prosecutors provided new proofs of violations,” Dorin Recean stated in the program “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.

The Premier said that any citizen of the Republic of Moldova who will serve the interests of another state will be punished in accordance with the law. He referred to Yevgenia Guțul’s assertion that if she is elected Bashkan, she will open a representative office of Gagauzia in Moscow.

“We have a law on separatism. If there are elements that will have another agenda than the citizens’ agenda, the law enforcement system will react and will punish eventual deviations from the law. First of all, we should make sure that the elected officials represent citizens’ interests. In the Cabinet, I will not tolerate another agenda than citizens’ agenda. The Government will not hesitate to implement the law where it is violated. What I saw in Gagauzia is also the result of the slow pace of reforms in the justice sector as a lot of ill-gotten gains were invested there, including money brought from outside through the Șor Party, the criminal grouping Șor. With the advancing of the justice sector reform, these things will be stopped and the presence of such political players will be considerably diminished and even banned,” said Premier Recean.

According to the preliminary data presented by the local election commission in Comrat, the Șor Party’s candidate Yevgenia Guțul won over 52% of the vote in the gubernatorial runoff held in Gagauzia on May 14. Her opponent Grigori Uzun, who was supported by the Party of Socialists, gained about 47% of the ballot.
