Prime Minister Dorin Recean encouraged the persons of all ages to go to the polls. After casting his ballot, he said that it is very important for the people to vote today as, besides mayors, they also elect councilors and there will be no runoffs for the local councils, IPN reports.

Premier Recean said that he voted for the European future of the Republic of Moldova so that the localities in the country are really European. “We build the European future of the Republic of Moldova every day. We today do this by voting for European mayors and councilors,” he stated.

The official noted that after these elections, he expects the building of Europe at home, in localities, through European projects will be accelerated. The future mayor of Chisinau should become involved in politics less and should develop the city.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu also cast a vote. “I voted for a European capital, for a mayor and councilors who will represent us,” he stated after leaving the polling station.

The official also called on the electors to go and vote. “I urge everyone to go to the polls and vote the mayors, councilors as any mayor needs a team of councilors who would help him, would promote projects and programs for the citizens’ benefit,” stated Speaker Grosu.

Polls close at 9 p.m.
