Judoist Dorin Gotonoaga finished 5th at the World Universiade in Taiwan. He managed two victories in the 81 kg category, against Samuel Kwitonda (Burundi) and Martin Becik (Slovakia), IPN reports.
In the semi-finals, Gotonoaga was bested by South Korea’s Seungsu Lee. In the match for the bronze medal, he lost to Brazil’s Vinicius Taranto. Also today, Norin Tatarescu was defeated by Algeria’s Reda Bougueroa. In the judo tournament, only Denis Vieru is left to represent Moldova.
In the archery contest, Dan Olaru reacher the 1/8 finals and Alexandra Mirca the 1/16 finals. Weightlifter Serghei Cechir, ranked 6th at the Rio Olympics, managed only a 9th place at the Universiade.
