Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca described the letter sent by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to the chairman of the Transnistrian Supreme Soviet Anatol Kaminski, which contains congratulations on the occasion of 21 years of independence of Transnistria, as defiance of Moldova’s independence and territorial integrity. “In non-diplomatic language, this is called: Your Excellencies, you have been scorned, and it seems that during at least 20 years if not 200 years, since the first occupation,” Dorin Chirtoaca said in Monday’s meeting of City Hall officials, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “How can such moves by the Prime Minister of Russia be described? Or this means that the things about which we have spoken for 20 years – that Russia supports and in fact recognizes the Transnistrian region as a separate state – are real and we now have a confirmation? What is Russia’s sincere answer? On August 27, the same official congratulated Moldova by a letter,” said the mayor. Dorin Chirtoaca stated he expects the defenders of Moldova’s statehood and independence, especially the Communists, to react as this is defiance of the country’s independence and territorial integrity. “They deride at Moldova, but simultaneously consider themselves as Moldova’s friends. We have extraordinary partners and colleagues,” he said. In a congratulatory message to Anatol Kaminski, Vladimir Putin says that Transnistria recently celebrated 21 years of independence and in this period managed to do many things, with Russia supporting and being near the Transnistrians.
