“We will definitely win these elections. There are yet two more days during which we can ensure the necessary mobilization so as to say goodbye to the remains of the Soviet, totalitarian past on June 28,” said the Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau. In a campaign end-up news conference on June 26, Dorin Chirtoaca noted that the current election campaign and the elections as well will help clarify things, IPN reports.
“When I became involved for the first time ten years ago, there was only hope and we made an attempt. A restoration is attempted in ten years, but it’s not possible for the same bad things to happen twice the same day – on June 28. Thus, on June 28 this year we will win and will do away with what was gathered there during the last 70 years,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.
He noted he knew from the very beginning that the campaign will be marked by dirty attacks, but his opponents actually campaigned in his favor by not coming to debates and by sending aggressive representatives instead of them. “We became involved in order to bring the municipality of Chisinau and Moldova close to the European living standards expected by everyone and, regardless of the ups and downs during our tenure, we know that we will succeed,” stated the candidate.
Dorin Chirtoaca said he has one more question for the Party of Socialists, namely where was the about €1 million taken from to finance the election campaign at a time when those who would have allocated money for the purpose declared lower incomes than their contributions to the campaign.
The candidate also said that unlike his main electoral opponent – the candidate of the Party of Specialists - he had a civilized behavior. The Socialists staged a denigrating campaign against him. “They anyway have no chance as they are first of all Soviet remnants and remnants of Voronin’s party and because they are weaker than Voronin was in the previous local elections,” he stated.
