Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the local authorities will need almost a year to deal with the consequences of the disaster caused by the late April snow. He developed the issue in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
“We will need several weeks to clean up. We will make effort to remove all the consequences until autumn, but I think we will work until this yearend to do this,” stated the mayor.
Dorin Chirtoaca complained that the Green Areas Association has a low number of employees owing to the small budget. “The company has about 300 employees, but needs 3,000. Since I took up as a mayor, I raised its budget for several times. We do not have possibilities, but must increase the budget, while the number of employees should be at least five times higher. The equipment should also be improved. Now the staff cannot cope,” he said.
The mayor called on the inhabitants of Chisinau to take part in the greening of the capital city after cleanup works are performed in yards. “The city looks like after war. At least 7,000 trees were destroyed, but the figure could rise to 10,000. Now each of us should plant by a tree,” he urged.
Dorin Chirtoaca also said that the situation returns to normality and the authorities coped with the state of emergency.
