The Liberal Party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca aims to renew the public transport in the capital city. In a news conference at the Chisinau Electric Transport Company on June 19, he said that 40 trolleybuses will be assembled in Chisinau this year. He also suggested a number of solutions for the buses running on routes in Chisinau, IPN reports.
Dorin Chirtoaca said that a special lane should be set up for public transport so as to avoid congestion, but this thing is to be regulated. He also referred to electronic turnstiles and the outfitting of all the public units of transport with GPS systems for ensuring better management.
According to the Liberal candidate, the number of new trolleybuses running in Chisinau, a part of which are to be assembled this year, will be doubled based on an agreement signed in May by the local authorities of Chisinau and representatives of the Belarusian company “Belkommunmash”. If using parts made in Moldova, the costs of assembling a trolleybus will decrease to €149,000. Now, each second trolleybus running in Chisinau is new. By the end of this year, the new trolleybuses will represent 2/3 of all the trolleybuses.
Dorin Chirtoaca proposed two solutions for renewing the buses – the launch of a public-private partnership and the assembly of buses according to the same model as in the case of trolleybuses. One of these solutions will be implemented by autumn so that the problem of buses is solved within a year.
In the second round of the mayoral elections on June 28, the voters in Chisinau will choose between Dorin Chirtoaca and Zinaida Grecheanyi.
