Suspended mayor general of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca announced his decision to vacate the seat. In a news conference, he said the decision was taken in protest at the abuses committed in the city and against him. Dorin Chirtoaca also said that now that he announced his resignation, early mayoral elections in Chisinau will be held on May 20 this year and he is ready to run alongside Igor Dodon, Vlad Plahotniuc and anyone else, IPN reports.

Dorin Chirtoaca said he received the mandate from the people, not from the leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, who is trying to take control of the municipality. As Plahotniuc realizes that he cannot win the elections in Chisinau, he pursued the goal of keeping Silvia Radu until the elections of 2019.

Dorin Chirtoaca said efforts are made to create the impression that the Chisinau City Hall is technocratic, but in reality it was divided between the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists, which now keeps silence. They try to promote a so-called reform at municipal level at a time when there is a reform plan worked out by UNDP Moldova in 2009, but this was blocked by the Municipal Council.

Dorin Chirtoaca also said that the Republic of Moldova is the only state in which a mayor investigated under judicial control was suspended from post in the absence of a definitive court judgment. He noted he does not know who to seek help from to have his case tried in accordance with the law. This is an abuse and he will obtain justice at the ECHR sooner or later.

According to Chirtoaca, the Republic of Moldova was yesterday a captured state, but today there is dictatorship only as the members of the local councils are intimated or blackmailed so that they join the Democratic Party of the National Unity Party as if they are unionists. Dorin Chirtoaca asked rhetorically if the president of honor of the National Unity Party Traian Basescu is aware of what is going on.
