The leader of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoacă said several candidates could be fielded for next year’s presidential elections on behalf of the unionist movement that is being formed now and these would undertake to withdraw in favor of one candidate who would be placed better in objective opinion polls. As a result of such a strategy, no vote would be lost, IPN reports.

“Meanwhile, we can have a common message, can promote the parties of the movement and can have a better start for the future parliamentary elections,” the politicians stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel.

According to him, the division of unionists forms part of Russia’s strategy. That’s why they proposed strengthening this platform. “We suggested forming the unionist movement in the Republic of Moldova so that everyone could keep their identity, no one would endanger the identity of a party and its further existence and, through this movement, we would be able to have that parliamentary and presidential representation the next years already. In ten years, we could definitely speak about a majority of 50-60% in Moldova’s Parliament and could even forge the union during the next 10-20 years,” stated the Liberal leader.

The politician noted the strategy of the new movement will be aimed at losing no vote. “Each vote given to the unionists would go to the movement’s common box and we would automatically have representatives in Parliament. We could even manage to have a republic President as our repetitive in a year, if we manage to mobilize,” said Dorin Chirtoacă.

He also said that the formation of an electoral bloc of unionist forces, as the leader of the National Unity Party Octavian Țîcu proposed, is not a solution. A unionist movement similar to the National Liberation Movement of 1989 or the Liberation Movement of 1917-1918 is needed. “By such a movement, without trying to claim the title of absolute leader, but by allotting place to each other and promoting each other and being more and more powerful, we could manage to remove this division from the agenda,” he stated.
