Dorin Chirtoaca: There is no more place for billboards in Chisinau

The Chisinau administration decided to suspend the placement of advertisements on billboards in the capital city and to inventory the exiting billboards. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said the municipality of Chisinau is full of advertisements, but this business does not yield the expected profit, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It is a period of transition. There were a large number of billboards in other cities as well, but their number has been reduced considerably during the last few years,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. According to the mayor, a company sets up a billboard at a cost of 500 lei per square meter. The municipal authorities yearly earn 3,000 lei on a billboard that is six square meters in area, while the company – about 80,000 lei. “The tax policy on billboards should be modified, but we need a Parliament decision first,” said the mayor. The Chisinau Municipal Council decided that the advertising tax will be levied when the advertisements on billboards are changed, not for a fixed period of time as until now.
