Dorin Chirtoaca signs MDL 50 mln payment order to clear the debt owed to the heat supplier

Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca signed a payment order of MDL 50 mln in favour of “Termocm” JSC. This is the first instalment of the total debt of MDL 151 mln. The money will enable Termocom to continue the works for preparing the heat distribution networks for the cold season and to pay the debts owed to its suppliers – power plants and “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (water supplier). The order was issued without a decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council. The mayor hopes he will be able to convince the local councillors when they return from their vacations. According to him, otherwise the City Hall could lose MDL 15 mln as a result of the lawsuit initiated by Termocom against the City Hall. The decision was also grounded on the statements of Termocom which announced that the preparation works for the winter season are moving slowly because of the debts, fact which can not be allowed by the City Hall, Chirtoaca says. In what concerns the request to the central authorities to take over a part of the debt to “Termocom”, Dorin Chirtoaca says that at present the central administration is displaying no interest about this issue. He says that the local authorities will continue to ask the Government to cover part of the total debt, because the Government is responsible of the social protection of the population. Especially because this is was the official purpose of the decision to compensate the tariff increase from MDL 233 to MDL 540 per G-calorie, approved by the former Chisinau Municipal Council, influenced to a great extent by the communists.
