Socialist MP Vladimir Turcanu said the mayor of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca, who is investigated in the case of pay parking lots, should better resign to allow early mayoral elections to be held in the capital city. Otherwise, the Chisinau Municipal Council will have to name a person to hold the post of mayor on an interim basis, but this could meet with difficulties in securing a majority of votes in favor of a candidate, IPN reports.
“A majority of votes is needed, but I don’t know how this majority will be identified. It surely depends who the candidate is,” the MP stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe.
Asked about the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu’s assumption that Alexandru Tanase could come to head the City Hall, Vladimir Turcan said he hears about this for the first time. “If so, they could name anyone mayor on an interim basis. Alexandru Tanase is a theoretician, jurist, but this post should be held by a person who knows what pubic services management, roads, repair, sewerage are. I don’t think that Mister Tanase will deal with the sewerage system” said the MP.
According to Vladimir Turcanu, any political party aims to control the administration of the capital city given its power in the country and the Party of Socialists does not hide this either.
As to the alleged agreement between the Socialists and the Democrats, the MP said it’s clear for everyone that this is an aberration. The law enforcement bodies should do their job. The question is why they didn’t do it earlier.
