Dorin Chirtoaca questioned by anticorruption officers

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca was questioned at the National Anticorruption Center as a witness in a case involving two former functionaries of the Public Amenities Division and a former employee of the Ministry of the Interior who tried to illegally obtain an apartment in the capital city. The mayor said the apartment to the value of 2 million lei is 130 square meters in area. The Public Amenities Division employees falsified the documents concerning the apartment and transmitted them to deputy mayor Vlad Cotet for signature. Apparently, the documents were in order, but it was afterward established that the court decision to change the purpose of the non-residential apartment into a residential one was false. The Centru district court didn’t issue such a decision. The mayor said he found out about this case last September. “I knew that attempts were made to appropriate it by different methods. I asked the Law Division head to take measures to prevent that order from having legal effect as it would have caused damage of 2 million lei. The order was withdrawn. Normally, it should have been abrogated, not withdrawn,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. He also said that the deputy mayor didn’t know that the documents were false. The two functionaries were dismissed, while the apartment will remain municipal property.
