Dorin Chirtoaca: Oleg Voronin appropriated property in Chisinau

The anticorruption officers are investigating the transaction whereby the construction company MoldconstructMarket SRL bought a plot of land located on Ciocarliei St in Chisinau, for a price that was ten times lower that its real value, four years ago. “The given company did not win the land auction accidentally. All the roads go to the Voronin family. Oleg Voronin appropriated real estate in Chisinau through this and other companies,” said Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, who was questioned as a witness in this case on May 26, Info-Prim Neo reports. The plot that was over two hectares in area was sold for 4.5 million lei at a time when a hectare of land in that area of the city costs €2 million. Initially, the City Hall proposed auctioning the plot for 30 million lei. Afterward, the Chisinau Municipal Council, where the Communists had a majority, reduced the initial selling price to 3 million lei. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, only three companies took part in the contest. Moldconstruct Market managed to purchase the plot for 4.5 million lei. In 2006, Oleg Voronin, the son of the former head of state Vladimir Voronin, worked as an economist at Moldconstruct Market SRL. Dorin Chirtoaca voiced hope that the municipal plots and constructions that were sold illegally will be returned to the City Hall so that they could be sold at their real price.
