The UNION Electoral Bloc’s candidate for President Dorin Chirtoacă vehemently condemns the furious attack and injudicious statements of Russia’s Embassy in Moldova against the Embassy of Romania and Ambassador Daniel Ioniță, IPN reports.

The candidate demands to summon the Ambassador of Russia to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and to hand over to him a protest note in connection with the unacceptable statements made about Romania’s ambassador. “This is a cynical provocation aimed at generating a diplomatic scandal during the campaign prior to the presidential elections,” he stated.

Dorin Chirtoacă considers the Security and Intelligence Service and the Prosecutor General’s Office are obliged to arrest officers of the Russian Intelligence Service (Gudilin, Grak and others), who are in the PSRM’s head office, and to expel them to the Republic of Moldova.

He noted that given the undiplomatic behavior and the secret cooperation between Igor Dodon and Oleg Vasnetsov in favor of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia, Oleg Vasnetsov should be declared persona non-grata in Moldova and should be expelled to Russia.

Russia’s Embassy in Moldova issued a press release saying it is bewildered at the statements made by the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova about “the soldiers of the Antonescu regime who died heroically on July 14, 1941 in the battles for liberating Bessarabia from the Soviet occupation”. The Embassy accuses the Romanian officials of “cynicism”.

On October 23, at the Cemetery of Honor of Romania Army Heroes in Mana, Orhei, Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ioniță said that “the Romanian soldiers who died on this land fought for the reintegration of the country, for justice and freedom, for this piece of land between the Prut and the Nistru, which belonged to Romania following the great event of December 1, 1918 and was separated from the country’s body as a result of the odious Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact”.
