The Chisinau municipality will be supplied with drinking water in safe conditions during another 100 years, said the Liberal Party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. In a news conference on June 24, the candidate presented his priorities and solutions in the water supply and sewerage sector, after descending into a reservoir at a depth of several meters, IPN reports.
“We no longer work for the past, as in 2007. We no longer work for the present, as in 2011. We now work for the future, for the municipality of Chisinau to have services of a high quality, especially water supply services meeting the European standards,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.
He noted that the underground networks of Chisinau are worn-out, as the reservoir into which he went down is. This reservoir hasn’t been renovated for over 40 years. It is one of the 30 reservoirs that will be reconstructed within a ten-year project to the value of €62 million, funded by the development partners. Within the same project, there will be rehabilitated tens of kilometers of pipeline and modernized the wastewater treatment station. There will also be built a plant for making sodium hypochlorite.
In the second round of the mayoral elections on June 28, the residents of Chisinau will choose between Dorin Chirtoaca and Zinaida Grecheanyi.
