The president of the Liberal Party (PL) Dorin Chitoacă said the electoral bloc ACUM’s assertion that the files of the candidates proposed by the PL for the meritocracy contest arrived with delay and the given candidates can be considered only for constituencies No. 1,11,18, 44,45,47 and 49 is a pretext, especially because ACUM didn’t announce a time limit for submitting the given documents. The Liberal leader made such statements in a news conference on December 25, IPN reports

The PL’s list sent to ACUM includes seven candidates, namely Dorin Chirtoacă, Veronica Herța, Corina Fusu, Mihai Moldovanu, Ion Cebanu and two representatives of the party’s youth organization.

According to Dorin Chirtoacă, there was no delay as the deadline for submitting documents to the Central Election Commission is January 24. The bloc’s decision is unfounded as any decision concerning the PL should have been taken only in a meeting that would have involved a member of the Liberal Party, which would have been succeeded by minutes and a decision communicated face to face.

The Liberal leader said that if the bloc ACUM does not change its position as to the late presentation of files, the members of the PL will decide how to act further in the meeting of the party’s political bureau the coming days.

Following Dorin Chirtoaca’s statements, on a social networking site ACUM wrote the bloc was constituted by the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) and the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) and there was no option for the PL to form part of the bloc.

“Our proposal was to accept members of other parties, including the PL, to the contest. When the PL fielded the potential candidates, the assessment process was close to an end. We expressed our readiness to discuss only the constituencies for which the final candidate hasn’t been yet decided,” runs the bloc’s posting.

The PL decided to take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections together with the bloc ACUM on December 16. The same day, the PAS and PPPDA signed an agreement on the formation of the electoral bloc ACUM.
