During his end of year report, mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said that in 2014, Chisinau moved closer towards becoming a European city from all viewpoints and in 2015 it should continue in this direction and not stray from the path, IPN reports.
“Overall, we can say that in 2014 the municipality of Chisinau maintained its balance and there haven't been any financial or other kind of problems and we managed to continue the modernization of the infrastructure and the development of the city”, said Chirtoaca.
According to him, the biggest accomplishments of the year are the construction of the pedestrian street, the repair of several streets, including the reconstruction of the Alecu Russo Street, the assembling of 20 trolleybuses, the cleaning of the first sector the Bic River, the inauguration of the bust of the former German mayor of Chisinau Karl Schmidt, the start of the installation of street lights on Dacia Avenue around the City Gates, the Airport, and many others.
The mayor admitted there have been some failures as well, but apologized by saying that only those who don't work don't commit mistakes. Among the problems of 2015, Chirtoaca listed the mansard program, corruption, especially in the area of real estate, and unauthorized trade. However, he promised that the failures of 2014 will be the priorities of 2015. Next, the City Hall will continue the modernization of the bus and trolleybus fleets, the improvement of waste management, of traffic security, and so on.
