The National ICT Regulatory Agency is warning the members of the public that the use of radiotelephones in the North-American DECT 6.0 standard is illegal and thus they must pay increased attention when buying devices online or on the secondary markets in order to avoid those marked “United States”, “FCC Approved”, and “For use in USA and Canada”.
The warning comes in connection with the increasingly rising use of DECT 6.0 radiophones across the country. The Agency says that such devices interfere with the 3G networks and affect the quality of mobile communication, therefore their use is illegal and punishable by fines of up to 10,000 lei.
The Agency further explained that the DECT 6.0 standard radiophones are destined for use in North-American countries only, because they operate in a frequency range different from the European standard. In Europe, including in Moldova, this frequency range is allocated on a license basis to 3G mobile operators.
