A number of educational institutions in Chisinau and also in the Transnistrian region received laptops purchased with the support of UNICEF and the Government of the United Kingdom. In the donation event, UNICEF Moldova Country Representative Maha Damaj said that this initiative represents a continuous commitment by UNICEF to increase educational opportunities for all children in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

The UNICEF Moldova Country Representative noted that this batch of laptops means more than a simple donation. “Let’s imagine a classroom in which each student possesses and has access to a laptop. This offers them unlimited possibilities. Laptops erase physical boundaries and open doors to a wealth of resources, online libraries, educational videos, and interactive learning platforms. This step is essential for the further digitalization of the educational process and is even more important for refugee children so that they continue to be connected to their schools in Ukraine. For students from disadvantaged communities or for children with disabilities or special educational needs, this experience can be transformative,” said Maha Damaj.

These laptops should further empower teachers. By having access to digital tools, teachers, educators can give real-time feedback and promote a more interactive learning environment. Also, the provision of digital devices to the Republican Center for Psycho-pedagogical Assistance or the National Institute for Education and Leadership is essential to improve the administration of the educational process and support services, said the UNICEF Moldova Country Representative.

Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, said that it is a donation worth about half a million dollars. The about 600 laptops are to reach the selected institutions. This effort is part of a broad series of activities to modernize educational institutions in the country, focused especially on providing digital equipment. “In the past two years, with the support of UNICEF and the European Union, we transmitted over 10,000 laptops to the institutions and this year we intend to make another large purchase of about 25 million dollars,” stated the minister.

Laptops have been delivered to the eight Romanian teaching schools situated on the left bank of the Nistru and to 11 institutions in Chisinau, as well as to the Republican Center for Psycho-pedagogical Assistance and the National Institute for Education and Leadership.
